Dr Carol Samuel (PhD) FFHT, HMAR, Cert-Ed
2014 Excellence in Practice Award Winner
I have been in practice as a complementary therapist and lecturer for 21 years. I gained my PhD for the scientific evaluation of reflexology for managing pain. My research results showed that reflexology increases pain threshold (the time at which you first feel pain) and significantly increases pain tolerance (your ability to withstand pain).
Throughout my many years’ experience I have continued to undertake a variety of professional development courses including: Vertical Reflex Therapy (VRT), Advanced VRT, VRT for the endocrine system, sleep disorders and mobility, Nerve Reflexology (MNT-NR), Advanced Reflexology techniques (ART), Taiwanese reflexology, Adapted Reflex Therapy for spinal pain and whiplash injury (AdRx), Reflexology the Meridian theory and 5 elements, Maternity Reflexology, Hand reflexology, Reflex Lymph Drainage and Repro Reflexology.
I hold various bodywork qualifications including: Swedish and Remedial Massage, Sports Therapy, Aromatherapy and Indian Head Massage and I am also a Reiki Master/Teacher and practice ear acupuncture for stress and anxiety.
My focus on reflexology for pain management began in 2002 when I was invited to undertake research at the University of Portsmouth. I completed my PhD in 2010 and it has since received both National and International recognition.
